Geekons.com: Christian Technology Podcast

About

Basic Info

We started out with a strong desire to educate those in the ministry in the area we are gifted in: technology. We firmly believe that all that is needed to equip a man for every good work is God's word (2 Timothy 3:16-17), but we also believe that God wants us to use our talents for His glory, and our talents involve tech.

We do this because we want to glorify God with the talents He has given us (we're nothing without him). We also love the idea of providing options to ministries other than what your average television advertisement might provide.

Producing the show

For now, I record into a borrowed RODE NT2 Condensor mic powered by a donated M-Audio MobilePRE USB preamp. I record into Ardour on Ubuntu Linux for all my EQ'ing and whatnot. Then I export to WAV, quickly mix the intro music clips and my wife's voice, and export to MP3. I just bought some M-Audio AV40's as reference monitors to try and mix it a little better, but I have a lot to learn before I even know what to listen for!

Producing the site

The graphics were all done in Inkscape, except for the brushed metal texture for the Geekons logo (that was done in the GIMP). The final images, PHP code, etc. were all done on my Ubuntu Linux workstation used for recording and mixign the show. I'm a huge fan of practicing what I'm sharing, and I still love Linux as an awesome solution for licensing issues many ministries run into based on funding and local government.

The site has much more work ahead, and I still need to play with spacing so it is easier to read, but at least I finally have a simple, updated layout!
